Time for my first non-introduction blog post. I have chosen to participate in ESPN's Bowl Mania. On this post, you will find my selections for the winners in addition to an explanation for the winners of the BCS Bowl games. My picks will be BOLDED AND IN ALL CAPS.
New Mexico Bowl: Nevada vs. ARIZONA
Idaho Potato Bowl: Toledo vs. UTAH ST.
Poinsettia Bowl: BRIGHAM YOUNG vs. San Diego St.
St. Petersburg Bowl: BALL ST. vs. UCF
New Orleans Bowl: East Carolina vs. LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE
Las Vegas Bowl: Washington vs. BOISE ST.
Hawaii Bowl: FRESNO ST. vs. Southern Methodist
Little Caesar's Bowl: WESTERN KENTUCKY vs. Central Michigan
Military Bowl: SAN JOSE ST. vs. Bowling Green
Belk Bowl: CINCINNATI vs. Duke
Holiday Bowl: BAYLOR vs. UCLA
Independence Bowl: OHIO vs. Louisiana-Monroe
Russell Athletic Bowl: RUTGERS vs. Virginia Tech
Texas Bowl: Minnesota vs. TEXAS TECH
Armed Forces Bowl: RICE vs. Air Force
Pinstripe Bowl: WEST VIRGINIA vs. Syracuse
Fight Hunger Bowl: Navy vs. ARIZONA ST.
Alamo Bowl: Texas vs. OREGON ST.
Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl: TCU vs. Michigan St.
Music City Bowl: NC State vs. VANDERBILT
Sun Bowl: USC vs. GEORGIA TECH
NOTE: No one should be surprised by this pick at all. Other than this pick, all of these are chosen from a non-biased point-of-view.
Liberty Bowl: IOWA ST. vs. Tulsa
Chick-fil-A Bowl: LSU vs. Clemson
Gator Bowl: MISSISSIPPI ST. vs. Northwestern
Heart of Dallas Bowl: PURDUE vs. Oklahoma St.
Outback Bowl: SOUTH CAROLINA vs. Michigan
Capital One Bowl: GEORGIA vs. Nebraska
Rose Bowl: Wisconsin vs. STANFORD
I don't think Stanford will have any problem with Wisconsin or Montee Ball. In case you didn't notice this, Stanford's defense is A LOT better than Nebraska's and Kevin Hogan is playing really well right now.
Orange Bowl: Northern Illinois vs. FLORIDA ST.
I'm one of the few people who think that this well be a fairly close game. FSU will have some trouble containing Jordan Lynch of Northern Illinois, but ultimately FSU has way too much talent to lose this game (especially after almost blowing it against GT in the ACC Championship)
Sugar Bowl: Louisville vs. FLORIDA
Again, I think this game will be fairly close and that Teddy Bridgewater will cause some problems for the Florida Defense. The only problem with Bridgewater, however, is that he is the only real player on this Louisville team and as soon as Florida finds an answer for him, they will have no problem winning this game.
Fiesta Bowl: OREGON vs. Kansas St.
Other than the National Championship, this is probably the best bowl game this season. Earlier in the season, many people considered this to be a potential BCS Championship match-up. Kansas State's defense did not have an answer to Baylor's fast paced spread offense and I don't think they will have an answer for Oregon's offense either.
Cotton Bowl: TEXAS A&M vs. Oklahoma
Compass Bowl: PITTSBURGH vs. Ole Miss
GoDaddy.com Bowl: KENT ST. vs. Arkansas St.
BCS National Championship: Notre Dame vs. ALABAMA
These are not the two teams that people expected to play in this game this year. I'm pretty sure the only person who thought Notre Dame was going to be here was Lou Holtz. Anyway, after watching Alabama's rushing offense simply tear up Georgia's defense in the SEC championship, I see absolutely no way that Notre Dame will be able to stop it either. Notre Dame's only hope will be if they are able to find a way to get the ball into the hands of their best playmaker Tyler Eifert. Unfortunately for Notre Dame, Alabama has a couple of players that, in my opinion, match up very well with Eifert in Nico Johnson and Casey Mosley. I think that those two will do a good job at containing Eifert and that Alabama wins this game 21-3.
Thank you for taking the time to read this blog and expect to see my first mock draft up probably on Saturday.
God Bless!
